Arms are draped around my neck, head resting upon my chest, seemingly intoxicated by my scent while he is breathing deeply to the rhythms of my heart. To him, this is sheer bliss; to me, the same. I am overwhelmed.
As I gaze at him with love-filled eyes, a smile comes on my face and I whisper, “thank you, Lord for blessing me with this precious baby boy.”
A bond between mother and child is one that develops almost instantly after birth, the moment they get in close enough contact to smell one another. The tiniest of beings can distinguish his mother’s scent from among all others. A mother’s scent has the power to awaken a baby’s hunger and then soothe that baby to sleep. When basking in the scent of the one who gave him life, a baby knows that he is safe, secure, protected. He knows that he is loved.
I wish this could last forever, but my baby boy will grow up quickly, for he is destined to be a great man of God. Facing this impending reality, I pray, “He might not always seek out mama’s scent, but God, may he always seek out and live saturated by Your scent.”
It is those who hunger and thirst for righteousness that will be filled (Matt 5:6)—filled even with the fragrance of Christ! Our loving Father reminds us that “…we are the sweet fragrance of Christ [which exhales] unto God…” (2 Cor. 2:15).
I pray that we, His daughters, would forever pursue and live saturated by His scent. May our hearts be kept so pure, so that we would not seek after the fleeting scents of praise or promotion, the evanescent aromas of material wealth or physical beauty. Let us hunger and thirst for righteousness, that we would be completely filled.
May His presence in our lives be like a sweet smelling perfume, redolent with life. By the aroma of our words, deeds, innermost thoughts and attitudes of our heart, let it be known that we’ve been with Jesus. May we be used to diffuse the fragrance of His Kingdom everywhere.
Let us be forever fragrant.

This is absolutely beautiful! =)
I am so moved by this blog. I read this as I sit at work a bit unsettled and slightly overwhelmed by what still needs to be done at 6:54PM, wanting to be home with my husband having dinner. And this blog reminds me that I need to rest my thoughts and self in the sweet aroma of our loving Father. Thank you Melissa for this beautiful and encouraging blog!
